as you can see, i have been on hiatus for quite some time. i decided to mark my comeback with a topic that is near and dear to everyone's heart....food! if you want to play (and it looks like i am one of the last to join the bandwagon), go here
the food lover's write-off

what is your favorite:
1. soft drink:
real cherry coke with lots of ice or snapple diet peach ice tea.
2. ice cream flavor:
i love peanut butter ice cream. i am also very fond of this ice cream place in virginia beach called uncle harry's cones and cream. they have a terrific, homemade chocolate coconut ice cream that defies description.
3. fast food restaurant:
not a huge fast food fan, but....arby's or hardees probably.
4. type of pizza:
i make my own variety with medium thick crust, crushed tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, and chopped garlic....yummy. believe it or not, this italian girl is not partial to most restaurant pizza.
5. thanksgiving dinner:
we used to do the big italian six course thingy that my friend mothermeatloaf described in his entry. pure gluttony, but delicious with a full italian meal followed by the standard american fare...turkey and such. since i've moved down south, we've moved toward the more traditional: turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, creamed onions, pumpkin pie, etc.
6. snack food:
baby carrots, apples, cheddar cheese, and, occasionally, pretzels.
7. side dish:
fresh veggies with olive oil and garlic.
8. food to eat while driving:
you must be kidding. i can't do both. i'm much too uncoordinated.
9. food for breakfast:
i usually attempt to have something healthy, but blow it with a giant mug of coffee. i love homemade waffles with butter and real maple syrup, but i only eat them once in a great while so as not to have them attach permanently to my butt.
10. sit-down restaurant:
by far, the best meal i have ever had was on my wedding night in honolulu at la mer. alas, i do not often hop on a plane for ten hours in order to eat dinner, so i will also settle for northwoods in annapolis, maryland or claiborne's in fredericksburg.
11. italian dish:
i love all italian food, but, probably, my mom's lasagna or my own chicken piccata (humble, aren't i?).
12. chinese dish:
egg drop soup, spring rolls, and chicken with broccoli.
13. sandwich:
turkey and cheddar on an onion roll
14. cheese:
my mother-in-law is french and always presents these amazing cheese boards. i love all varieties of cheese but favorites are: bleu (bleu d'auvergne is to die for), camembert, and really sharp cheddar.
15. donut:
paul's bakery in fredericksburg makes a terrific vanilla cream donut. it's (almost) better than sex.
16. type of dessert:
cheesecake - new york style plain with absolutely no fruit topping. i feel compelled to add the fruit disclaimer because people are always trying to slap some sorry fruit glaze or pie filling on my cheesecake. jeez!
peach cobbler too...southern style with real butter in the cobbler part and real whipped cream.
17. type of cake:
not crazy about cake unless it's cheesecake (see above)...
18. vegetable:
spinach or green beans
19. fruit:
nectarines... hands down
20. food in bed:
never. nothing i do in bed should be mixed with food.
21. beer:
i am so boring about beer. i like corona with lime.
22. drink with dinner:
seltzer with lemon or diet ice tea.
23. fruit juice:
i'd rather eat the fruit. not a juice fan.
and finally...
24. what is your favorite meal?:
i have so many favorites but probably....
filet...medium rare, a glass of australian cabernet, garlic mashed potatoes, baby spinach salad with bleu cheese, and (if i can stuff it in) some really rich dessert like chocolate peanut butter torte with espresso.
