tha o show

tha o show tuesday, november 13, 2007 tha raw report: thud last night marked the last "raw" before the 21st annual survivor series pay-per-view. as always, wwe had the opportunity to do something really special to make a splash and boost buyrates for the upcoming show.instead, we saw a show that did little to impress. "raw" made a dull splat on the last episode before one of their major pay-per-views."raw" started off with batista - of all people - in the ring. the promo was painful. for starters, batista sounded blown up while talking. as if his staggeringly slow rate of speech wasn't bad enough, he dropped the worst line i have heard in wwe in a long time. "not only are weapons welcome, but they are...allowed". what?don west (a.k.a. shiny happy shirt man - props to b4) wishes he could suck that bad at talking.fortunately, the undertaker came out to stop this trainwreck of a promo. this prompted william regal to come out and make a match, in which batista and undertaker would team against "raw's finest tag team". out come cade & murdoch, who promptly got squashed.this bothers me. here you have the team that was just put over as the best team on "raw", and they get destroyed solely as a means of building interest in the hell in a cell match between batista and undertaker at survivor series. couldn't wwe have used time on "smackdown!" to hype this match?so a ten-diva match has been booked for survivor series. on one hand, i like this idea, as right now, the women's division is seriously depleted and this could be used to elevate new female stars (a la stratus going over at survivor series in 2001).on the other hand, this is the e, where if you have big tits and you put out, you get a job. so you know most of these women probably can't work anyway. i'm holding out hope that amazing kong shows up and destroys everybody, but i'm not holding my breath.after beth squashed maria, the fans were treated to the first real entertainment of the night in the form of santino marella. his entire promo was gold, but it sadly looks like donnie was wrong. after his mini-feud with austin, what does he get? a feud with jerry lawler. whoopdee-fucking do. the last guy to feud with jerry lawler is now in tna.we then had a mixed tag team match featuring 60% of one of this sunday's survivor series matches. i hate that matt hardy and mvp are involved in this match. it really devalues the wwe tag team championship in my eyes to have the champs on opposite sides of the ring. was it just me, or was there only three minutes of action in between commercials at the beginning of this match?all in all, though, i can't complain, the match featured six great workers and was damn solid. and, for once, it didn't feel like wwe was giving away too much for free.another "save_us.222" promo. yawn. i'm already tired of jericho. by now, if you haven't figured out what the promos mean, you're a moron. and i mean that. if "break the walls" and "y", "2", and "j" appearing for prolonged periods during the promo didn't give it away, you are truly an idiot. you may get as hot as you want over that, but it's true. it's as obvious as gay on frank fronte.shawn michaels and randy orton then had a face-off going into their match this sunday. i loved this segment. i loved how michaels subtly referred to the 1997 survivor series. take that, bret hart, you whiny bitch.what i didn't like was the fact that this came halfway through "raw". back in july, john cena and bobby lashley had the great vanilla debate. it was the same gimmick as michaels and orton, only theirs sucked and it was at the end of the show. the e really is trying to punk off both michaels and orton.i don't understand why there's so much backstage animosity towards hbk, but keep it up, wwe. i'd love to see michael hickenbottom win the tna championship at bound for glory 2008. (for those of you who think that's unfathomable, did you think at the beginning of 2007 that booker t would be in tna now?)huge o for mickie james laying a liplock on leyla, then kicking her head off. i wouldn't mind seeing that as her finisher permenently, with or without kiss. it was that nasty of a kick. also, an o for jr messing up jillian and lillian's names. seemingly, it's funny no matter who does it.jerry lawler still looks pretty fit for a guy his age. but i still would prefer to not see him in the ring. feuding with jerry lawler is bad. jobbing to jerry lawler is worse. poor santino. then, after defeating everybody's favourite italian, lawler goes and does a comedy spot by going back to his commentary position as if nothing happened, talking about the divas match. gay.i got a laugh out of coach dressed at the great khali, and another laugh at the runjin singh impression. however, the idea behind the hornswoggle/great khali match at survivor series is awful. does wwe really think that people will be interested in this match?i don't like the idea of umaga being the captain of a team, at least without a handler. but i suppose that on my list of things that's wrong with wwe, that pales in comparison to other things.i just couldn't get into umaga's match with triple h last night. sure, these guys are great workers, but the whole match, i couldn't shake that whole "triple h won't let anybody go over clean" train of thought. and the e didn't do much to prove me wrong by having it end in a dq schmoz.nothing about last night's "raw" has made me excited about survivor series. which is a bad thing.tha results:batista & the undertaker def. lance cade & trevor murdochbeth phoenix def. mariamatt hardy, jeff hardy & rey mysterio def. finlay, mr. kennedy & mvpmickie james, michelle mccool & kelly kelly def. melina, layla & jillian halljerry lawler def. santino marellahornswoggle def. coach (dressed as the great khali) in a pre-taped "training session"triple h def. umaga by dq in a lumberjack match more on this story... posted by brian plunkett at 2:55 am 14 comments    monday, november 12, 2007 tha book of genesis last night, tna presented their genesis pay-per-view. now, it's been a while since i've written any articles for this site, so i thought i would make my return in grand style.so, o-sters, prepare the booming thunder, the fire, and the brimstone, because the booking of genesis is about to be told to all tna believers.and yeah, did vince russo "let there be a shit-tacular curtain jerker!" and there was, and it was indeed shit.the opening contest between abyss and black reign blew chunks. it's hard to believe that this was the event last year where abyss won his first heavyweight championship. i continue to be bored by black reign, and dustin rhodes as a whole. if there were ever a man who needed to realize what time in his career it was, dustin would be it. i was really hoping this stint would last as long as his previous tna stints...no such luck.2007 as a whole is a year that chris parks would be wise to forget. he was made to look at a jamoke at the first pay-per-view of the year, and things have gone downhill since then. first last rites, now a shop of horrors match. i wonder how many people equated this piece of shit to the musical little shop of horrors. suddenly seymour...is taking a piss instead of watching this match.yeah, and then vince russo decreed, "let chris sabin and alex shelley get a push!" and they did get a push, until russo said "never mind". and they were buried.how sad is it that two talented guys like chris sabin and alex shelley have to play a sidenote to team 3d's hate-on of the x division just to get airtime? not to look a gift horse in the mouth, this was an entertaining match, but i hate the lack of thoughtful booking that goes into many x division superstars, these two in particular. since sabin lost the title, he has been lost in the shuffle. he never got a rematch, and has been put under like nobody's business ever sincethen.and vince russo did again decree, "will someone please get brother ray a better fitting shirt? nobody wants to see bingo fat on a pro wrestler."that one's pretty self-explanitory. dude needs the frank fronte weight loss gimmick. then again, "brother fatty" wouldn't get over.vince russo then said, "and yeah, gail kim is quite the worker, let her show her skills and go over en route to the big money match with amazing kong." dan-e-o then testified "and may i soon see the top of that head." and dan-e-o did see the top of that head, and it was good.okay, maybe the gail kim skully joke was a little out of line, seeing as how she's a very good worker worthy of the respect of wrestling fans. i thought the match somewhat resembled a squash because of how short it was, but then again, we all know that this match was primarily to get kim some exposure, since she has not had much tv time over the past month.i give tna a lot of credit. they are trying to start a new division and keep it around. so how are they doing it? establish your top face and top heel, and build towards the payoff match. had they done something similar with angle vs. joe, i think the wrestling world would still be abuzz over their feud.and jay lethal said "ohhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah, dig it!" and it was good.jay lethal vs. sonjay dutt was a match that i had expected to see much earlier on the calendar. i had hoped for a dutt heel turn back when lethal first was getting his push to the title, but this was still a solid match. what ruined it for me, though, was team 3d coming out post-match to take the x division title hostage. i don't agree with donnie, this angle has no potential to help out tna.think about it. everytime tna reaches a new exposure plateau, they love to show off their laurels. and what does tna have to brag about more than anything else? the x division. so basically, you are having a past their prime tag team come out and bury the one thing that made tna. the worst part is, i truly believe that someone backstage believes this garbage when it's written. not a good move to be claiming that what made you is really worth fuck-all.yeah, and did the fans of tna then proclaim, "rick, put a shirt on, nobody wants to see that."the steiner brothers did the job against tomko and styles last night. i suppose that this match was just to try and build some credibility for tomko and styles as the tag champs, which i'm fine with. tna's tag division is so deep right now, though, that you could easily have and two of multiple tag teams feuding for the title without needing to establish credibility. where was lax?yeah, and did robert roode and samoa joe tear the house down. and god said, "ohhhhhhhhhhh!"samoa joe and robert roode had the match of the night. want to disagree? you can't. this match was off the hook. roode and joe showed what they could do, and even though roode did not win, i still believe just by feuding with samoa joe, he is elevated. especially if this program continues. right now, robert roode is in the same territory that edge was in through 2004 and 2005. he's right on the cusp of breaking through, and you know it's going to happen sooner or later. it's merely a question of when, how, and (potentially) where.by the way, mr. cena, put down the syringe, pick up a pencil, and take notes. that's how you put on a real stf.yeah, and did christian cage and kaz go out and have a great match? and kaz went over, and god said "what the fuck?"ladies and gentlemen, if you ever were looking for an out-of-left-field story to run with, here it is. frankie kazarian, who spent much of the last three years buried, and was even out of tna for an extended period of time, is now the number one contender to the tna heavyweight championship. i'm sorry, i just don't buy it.is kaz a good worker? no doubt. but, as dan-e-o said a few weeks back, he's not a compelling character. he's given little to no airtime on a regular basis, so fans have little to no reason to care about him. the push he's been given has been painfully weak, and for it to culminate like this makes no sense.so now we have kurt angle vs. kaz. this match will happen midway through an episode of "impact!", and no one will care about it. i get that originally, this was set up to give junior fatu a title shot, but still, at least get a little creative in solving the problem.and yeah, did steve borden say "my partner is booker t". and yeah, did the bookman arrive, with sharmellons in tow. and yeah, did she get into a catfight with karen angle, causing dan's pants to explode.okay, so by now, it was no big secret that booker t was sting's mystery partner. the match itself was decent. i wouldn't ever want to see it main eventing bound for glory, but it was a far cry from the famed last rites match.as stated before, sharmell also made her debut, getting into a catfight with karen angle. i'm sure that dan busted a nut when he saw this. in fact, knowing dan, not only did he bust his nut, but also the nut of his descendants, as well as nut of hypothetical children he hasn't had yet. i guarantee the jeans he wore tonight are stained white forever.i had two big issues with this match. the first is the classic problem that always seems to pop-up in tna. run-ins. i didn't like having styles and tomko come down to ringside during the match. to me, it was bad booking that didn't make any sense.my other problem? strange as this sounds, i'd have preferred to see booker t go over in this match. maybe it's me thinking like a mark, but they put an awful lot of hype around this guy, and giving him a title run upon coming to tna would have potentially helped to shake up a title picture that is in danger of becoming stagnant.that, and it would be the ideal way to get ron killings back into the main event. think about it - ron killings and booker t cutting promos where they try to play the race card on each other. hypaz.so, all in all, genesis was not a five-star pay-per-view, but it was definitely more than a solid "meh". if you didn't see it, i recommend seeing it, either through replays or just on youtube.tha results:*abyss def. black reign in a shop of horrors match*motorcity machine guns def. team 3d*gail kim wins the fatal four way match pinning odb*jay lethal def. sonjay dutt*samoa joe def. robert roode*kaz def. christian cage in the fight for the right finals*kurt angle & kevin nash def. sting & booker t - angle pinned sting more on this story... posted by brian plunkett at 4:30 am 13 comments    sunday, november 11, 2007 now that's a teaser campaign! eat that saveus_222! eat that vince's marketing department! tna scooped your asses and did it better. while wwe fans are scratching their heads trying to understand how the jericho teaser clips actually relate to y2j, tna ran one of their own on their website this weekend.at the end of a video, this text was shown "moc.a07n11t11.www//ptth". backwards it is http://www.11t11n07a.com/". on that site is a big ass puzzle. solve the puzzle (as i did in 9 minutes), and you see sting's face and the words "genesis" as well as "borden" and "huffman" spraypainted backwards on a wall. now that is f'n cool. more on this story... posted by bigdaddy at 2:17 pm 5 comments    saturday, november 10, 2007 talkin' smack! what the hell is the point of a "no holds barred" match if you don't use any barred moves? staying consistent with recent wwe programming, last night's main event from taker and khali proved to be completely pointless.if they even spilled out to the floor i don't remember because i was too consumed with boredom to notice. what i did notice was there was no blood, no chair shots worth mentioning, and no prolonged fighting outside of the ring.why then was this match billed as no disqualification and no countout? i don't get it. i liked the triangle choke finish though. whatever.could somebody please tell me how the vanilla twins (major brothers) are ever going to get over? i'm hard pressed to come up with a tag team more bland and uncharismatic than these two white meat babyfaces. seriously, winning matches with cross body blocks and sunset flips on a consistent basis is not getting these guys anywhere. that shit might have been legit in the mid 80s, but these two look like the illegitimate sons of a tom zenk and van hammer love affair.speaking of van hammer, chuck palumbo pisses me off. his motorcycle gimmick pisses me off. him "dating" michelle mccool pisses me off. his program with kenny dykstra pisses me off. the fact that dykstra is paired with victoria pisses me off. the whole damn thing pisses me off. move on!i bet all of you o-sters out there really enjoyed it when batista yelled "yeah!" right after he cut another scathing promo on the undertaker. i know i did. nice touch indeed. however, the undertaker seems to have the mutant ablility to drag damn good matches out of batista and i'm actually looking forward to "hell in the cell".what was up with jbl's interrupting phone call he took on the air? i'm not sure why it happened, but i liked it. i'm not sure why i liked it either. i'm realling digging this week for shit to like.finlay and mysterio were the highlight of the evening. i miss when this type of match was the standard on "smackdown!". these two gave it all and guess what? they actually wrestled all the way through a commercial break. though the formula for success seems so simple, the actual wrestling has been dwindling from "smackdown!" as of late and i'm sick of it. finlay and mysterio along with mvp and matt hardy, continue to make the show watchable.the good news is that jamie noble has been getting tons of air time as of late. the bad news is it's all been in squash matches. noble is one of the most talented in ring performers on any roster and deserves much more than he's been given. i understand that in ring talent doesn't necessarily equate to success, but jamie proved to us in the past that he's also capable of being an entertaining character as well. his run trailer park trash gimmick nidia was gold.i just hope this program is heading somewhere for jamie noble's sake. like jbl said, you don't see too many wrestlers with cauliflowered ears anymore. that alone should be enough to earn jamie noble some respect.is anyone familiar with his run in ring of honor? his title matches against roderick strong and brian danielson were classic, as well as his program with fellow "smackdown!" superstar jimmy wang yang. if you want to see what jamie noble is capable of, you need to check it out. unfortunately you're not going to be seeing his talent showcased on wwe television anytime soon. more on this story... posted by ben boudreau at 3:10 pm 6 comments    friday, november 09, 2007 tha "impact!" dispatch: hey yo! thank god. last night's episode of "impact!" was a major improvement on last week's joke of a show. yes, there were still skits-a-plenty...but they were less cartoonish and more the generic backstage story developers we've become used to.this week's story: why is scott hall in the building? well thanks to big daddy spoiler himself (not kevin nash, but donnie), we all already knew that hall was there not to reveal himself as sting's tag-team partner for genesis this sunday.instead the big mystery was...he just wanted to say "hey yo" to his old buddy, kevin nash.the so-called "swerve" wasn't the only thing big daddy donnie spoiled for tna fans either. as revealed on tha o show this past week, christian vs. kaz will be taking on each other in the finals of the "fight for the right" tournament in a ladder match at genesis. so why did they curtain jerk last night's "impact!"?oh...so they could set up for the announcement of the ppv match. thanks don. either way, it was quite a good match with kaz definitely showing that he could hold his own against the instant classic. now everyone, i'm sure, knew that christian would be going over in this one but i don't see why aj styles and tomko had to interfere to get the job done.yes, i know that the screwjob finish was the "reason" matt morgan had to come out (why is in this role?) in place of jim cornette to declare the match a no-contest and then insist that is restart at genesis as a ladder match. but...couldn't the opening of the show been used to put over some talent that didn't have the chance to shine when "impact!" was only an hour? just book the finals of the tourney for the ppv anyway, that's what we all expected.also, give kaz some promo time. if he really is going to be pushed to the main event level, the fans are going to need to "get to know him better". it's this very concept that is helping me enjoy watching aj styles so much more. always having been a great worker, styles is that much more over due to his comedic promo-cutting abilities. i thought his "i'm the captain of the team"-inspired "takedown challenge" to scott steiner was excellent.gail kim is sexy. i've always thought so. if only i had the balls to tell her that when i worked with her in toronto's now-defunct awf. she is most definitely deserving of her reign as first-ever tna knockout champion as well. she can wrestle. and apparently, so can her genesis opponents. but where was awesome kong last night? isn't a kim-kong feud being built here? (kim kong, i love it).for the record, odb is a shit-ass name for a female worker. more respect need be paid to the late ol' dirty bastard of wu tang clan fame.whatever karen angle offered to scott hall last night, to which he replied "aren't you married?"...i want! seriously. and now! priceless how he called her a "rat" too.i still have to disagree with donnie about 3d. i just don't see the reason why they're feuding with the entire x division. the title is being defended by jay lethal against sonjay dutt this sunday, but dutt was nowhere to be seen on last night's "impact!". instead, lethal teamed with abyss (why??) to take on team 3d.as expected, this lead to a black reign run-in to brawl it up with his genesis opponent abyss. which, of course, lead to the left-prone-for-a-two-on-one beatdown on jay lethal at the hands of brothers ray and devon (who went all passion of the christ on the poor guy). i just think both this tag team and the x division could be used more wisely. 3d should still be clamouring for the tag titles and perhaps feuding with lax (who were also absent from last night's show) and the x division guys should be fighting each other.question: with kurt and karen angle always arguing, why is she always so intent on helping him with his problems? i don't know...anyway...another one for the "aj styles is jokes" file - his "gainesville vocational" college wrestling tights. pretty good match for a "takedown challenge". i noticed as styles was taking the lead early in the bout he did kind of a "spinaroonie" to get up. foreshadowing of some kind?the main event was also decent. good to see robert roode getting a chance to go in a match with the likes of other tna main eventers like sting, samoa joe and kurt angle. same goes for eric young...it was good to see him get some shit in on angle and (hopefully) foreshadow that he can hang with the big boys."impact!" ended with the scott hall/kevin nash "confrontation". this provided the perfect opportunity for me to do something that is integral to every recap of a tna show - bash the announce team.scott hall greets kevin nash with a "hey yo". mike tenay says, "that's the signature opening line that we're all so familiar with". thanks mike. you and don west are still fuckin' clit scabs.tha results:*christian cage def. kaz - only for it to be ruled a no-contest by matt morgan*gail kim def. alexa jade in a non-title match*team 3d def. jay lethal & abyss*scott steiner def. aj styles 4-3 in the "takedown challenge"*eric young, samoa joe & sting def. kurt angle, james storm & robert roode more on this story... posted by dan-e-o at 6:20 pm 3 comments    riddick bowe has lost his mind riddick "big daddy" bowe has officially lost his mind.at the age of 40, bowe has publicly stated he wants to be the first man to hold a major boxing and a mixed martial arts title at the same time.keep in mind, it's been two years since bowe has been in a sanctioned fight, and three years since his big money bout against ageless evander hollyfield. also keep in mind, bowe has never even trained for an mma fight, much less competed in one.in an interview with sherdog, bowe said, "i've been running, doing things as i was doing them in boxing. i guess now all i have to do is get down with the ground work. i'm going to be a little anxious and what have you, but i think as time progresses, i should pick it up like i pick everything else up."bowe claims he will compete in an mma forum on december 12th 2007.when asked why he wanted to do this, bowe replied, "because i ain't got nothing else to do." more on this story... posted by bigdaddy at 1:00 am 4 comments    thursday, november 08, 2007 rated o radio - episode 37 settle in o-sters and prepare yourselves for another sweet edition of tha o show.this week, tha boys pay tribute the memory of the fabulous moolah, a true legend in the world of professional wrestling. in doing so, tha o show presents its first-ever all-female edition of your favourite internet radio wrestling program.sexy hot guests, all of your favourite segments and the most candid cats in the whole business...how could you not love it?on this week's show...tha boys drop their "os and nos"...but not before discussing their favourite porn stars and the sites they find them on! man, it gets hot before the ladies even arrive!in one of the most shocking and stomach-turning editions of "road stories" ever, the lovely misty haven goes all out. easily the most unabashed revealing tale in this segment's history, misty delivers a can't-miss gem! forget "o", this one'll make you say "eeeeeeewwwwwwww"!the beautiful and newly crowned gcw w.i.l.d. champion, portia perez steps up to be the next contestant on the returning "wrestletrivia" gimmick!in a controversial move, tha o show - much to dan-e-o's dismay - continues with one of its most popular segments "tha pit stop". and with the agitated dread out of the studio to avoid any further conflict, the notorious t.i.d. passes through to discuss all things ufc including brock lesnar's debut fight in february.tha crew reconvenes to preview this coming sunday's tna pay-per-view, genesis.in the ongoing saga that is f'n frank fronte's mission to get to 202 lbs by december 1st, the "bet within the bet" comes to a head! frank gets weighed and the question is answered. who will deliver the chops to whom? well, when punk won the ecw championship back on the 4th of september, that's what happened.it could be argued that it wasn't done this way because no title switch was planned, but ecw is a one hour show, and wouldn't it have made more sense to do that this time and leave out all the b.s.?i will recap the show, from beginning to end, not in a play-by-play manner, but just a general this is what happened, and what i thought of it. at the end of this, ask yourself, "did i enjoy seeing that?" or "would i have enjoyed seeing that?"i wasn't too upset with the monster mash battle royal last week, it was halloween for the love of god, but was it needed for the final two participants to open the show?kane jerked the curtain, almost literally. opening video, boom, here's kane. the final two participants of last week's main event were in the opener: "smackdown-c-w!" superstars kane and mark henry, not only was it a curtain jerker, but it ended in a dq with kane going over on the world's strongest man. in my opinion, that was a completely unneeded addition to this week's edition of ecw.for our next match, we got jamie noble taking on nunzio. (editor's note: does anyone else remember nunzio being introduced to wwe fans as noble's crazy cousin?) here are two guys who over the last several months have three wins between them. all those wins by the way belong to noble.in a shocker, nunzio jobbed out yet again, and this time to noble's gutbuster. noble is the wwe's cruiserweight agent, so why not use him more in that role, and less in meaningless matches? i just don't see how having jamie noble going over on the ecw original jobber is necessary.here's the kicker. a match that basically cost the ecw championship match five good minutes: kelly kelly taking on layla. while i don't mind seeing either of these girls on tv, i just don't know how much i want to see them in matches. we all saw what happened to kk monday night on "raw" at the hands of the glamazon, and the week before that too.so we get to see her in the ring with an equally, or even more green layla. as expected, it was a terrible match, other than simply getting to see kelly and layla, it was a complete and total waste of time. layla went over, and yet again kelly kelly jobbed out. why?not only that, but after the match, balls mahoney came down to check on kelly and protect her from miz and layla. and in one of the most fagorific moments in television history, layla had to hold the miz back. i'm just wondering how this storyline will continue, because as we all know, wwe took a big hit when they released brooke.brooke's release along with kristal's is an unexpected release, but one that other than the eye candy factor, nobody cares about. i'm skipping ahead a bit here, but as you will read more about later, miz and morrison had a backstage encounter, in which each insulted the other. miz also told morrison that his luck was about to run out. don't these jackasses listen? luck is for losers!the next match of the evening was elijah burke taking on shannon moore. here we go again! elijah burke does get a win, and as big a shannon moore fan i am, i feel it was a pointless win. i've mentioned before that people assume "smackdown!" guys are "better" because they carry the "smackdown!" roster stigma, but where does thisput burke, and how at all does it elevate him?elijah burke, at this point is going nowhere. he's winning, but he is not moving up the ladder. i mentioned the miz-morrison tif backstage, maybe burke can jump back into the title scene soon by including him such skits.not only have all the matches noted before occured before a world championship match on a one-hour show, but we get a backstage segment involving wwe champion and "raw" superstar randy orton and "raw" gm william regal. it stated stipulations for the survivor series wwe championship match. no sweet chin music, and orton loses the title on a dq, big whoop.after all this, and according to my clock, it was 10:58, and cm punk is making his way to the ring and the match starts. 58 minutes equates to i think about 41-42 minutes of tv time on a one hour slot, and the overrun typically lasts 5-7 minutes, so you do the math.not only that, but during a match that could have been, and has in the past been spectacular, it was completely and totally a fuck up. it was booked horribly, not too long into the match, guess who comes out? the miz that's who. have i mentioned how much i despise miz?so in a match that was supposed to be about the ecw championship, it ends up doing one thing, and that's set up a miz-morrison program. miz threw his hat at morrison, which allowed punk to get the roll-up and the victory. are you serious? i know the hollywood writers strike is going on, but why not call up some of the guys in oshowwood, since the others aren't available. i'm sure these writers could give you some direction, you bunch of morons.this week's ecw really, really dissapointed me. it was a wasted ecw championship match, and with the huge clusterfuck that took place before the main event, it was a wasted show in my opinion. there was, to me a pretty big slap in the face to punk, and the ecw title because the championship and punk were used as a platform to elevate a feud between morrison and miz: one guy who does belong in the main event, and one guy who belongs in a parents who forgot protection episode of dr. phil.that's all i got o-sters, sorry this week was a rant, but i couldn't help myself. see you again next week, but until then, oooooooooooooooo!tha quick hits....*kane def. mark henry via dq*jamie noble def. nunzio*layla def. kelly kelly*elijah burke def. shannon moore*cm punk def. john morrison to retain the ecw championship more on this story... posted by d.j.b. at 1:50 pm 4 comments    tuesday, november 06, 2007 tha raw report: one night only...i wish triple h: "what the hell was all that?"shawn michaels: "i gotta be honest with you. i feel like i'm getting a little too old for this. i don't know who writes this garbage, but this is the worst debacle since that whole katie vick thing years ago!"need i say more? thankfully, the members of dx (for "one night only" in case you missed it the first thousand times), said exactly what i was thinking for me. other than providing me with the perfect opening for my article, the opening segment of last night's "raw" was absolutely nonsensical and useless.seriously, what the hell was all that?firstly, i don't get why dx's reunion was for "one night only". did you know it was for "one night only"? because they said it was for "one night only". in case, you weren't aware, for "one night only", last night shawn michaels and triple h reunited as degeneration x. but it was for "one night only".1) why was it necessary for us to be continually reminded of this inexplicable circumstance? 2) as donnie mentioned on tha o show last week, these guys have not had a heel turn since they reformed as dx last year...so why would they not be dx next week? 3) vince mcmahon - dx's arch nemesis - is the individual who called for this "one night only" reunion last week. logically, why the hell would he want that? 4) why would dx adhere to mcmahon's wish to reunite for "one night only"? they could, at least, reunite for two nights. that would really piss vince off!anyway, in case you missed it, "raw" opened with dx doing their thing in the ring. out comes hornswoggle. i wonder "why did his music play if he was under the ring the whole time? how would anyone know he's about to enter the ring?" he wants to join dx...for "one night only". he does.then the boogeyman - of all people - wants to join dx...for "one night only". then - get this - the great khali...yes, that great khali enters the ring to join in on the fun and gets a face pop (after joining dx for "one night only") for chopping an interrupting (and unable to keep a straight face) jonathan coachman out of the ring. read the beginning of this article again for what was said by dx next.i'm sure this was all meant to be funny. it wasn't.here's what else happened on "raw" last night:beth phoenix defeated kelly kelly in 41 seconds. snitsky defeated some dude named joey in 33 seconds. and then a music video "introducing" jeff hardy to god-only-knows-who was played. close to halfway through the show and we've witnessed a grand total of two matches in 74 seconds.it has been announced that at this year's survivor series (the ppv where several feuds get rolled up into one match, as proven by the following sentence), there will be a traditional survivor series match pitting triple h, kane, rey mysterio and the hardys against umaga, mr. kennedy, finlay, big daddy v and mvp. since pay-per-views are no longer segregated to any one particular brand...why should the brands keep to their own brands, right?as if anyone still cared about that, finlay and rey rey jumped over from "smackdown!" to "raw" to compete in a tag-match last night. at least, all four combatants are good workers. but i'm dying to know why mr. kennedy isn't going after jeff hardy's intercontinental title. am i the only wrestling fan alive who still gives a shit about this belt?perhaps, kennedy is still, somehow, in the doghouse. perhaps it's because he botches spots like his over-the-top fake putting-himself-between-the-ropes routine to set up for rey's 619. in fairness, i don't think kennedy is a spot-botcher or a worker worthy of a burial. either way, that didn't stop him from taking yet another pinfall last night.sadly, my favourite on-the-mic superstar in wwe, santino marella, was been wasting his breath over the past several weeks. in my opinion, the e had one of the best possible opportunities to put over this young talent last night. but, then again, who would want to further the push of a young superstar over recycling a ridiculous beer truck gimmick, right?for weeks, santino has ragged on stone cold steve austin and his film, the condemned. in the end, this was all simply great promotional material for the release of the aforementioned movie's dvd. it had nothing to do with santino at all. witty and comical, the santino marella character is ingenious. but the e used it as simply a pawn in a shortsighted game.everyone on the planet, as well as its nearby stars knew that marella was a sitting duck for a stone cold stunner...weeks ago! couldn't the e have surprised us? how dope would it have been for marella to actually have gotten one over on steve? would it have hurt austin in anyway? give me a "hell no!".austin is the only superstar that i can think of who is not part of the active roster who is so over that he can continually come up with new t-shirts to sell on wweshop.com. the new one: "been there destroyed that". as in destroyed santino's "push".now i don't blame steve. wwe writers (who are the ones who should go on strike) have probably been creaming their jeans for weeks anticipating the scene involving austin and his new beer bath victim, santino marella. it was, however, way too obvious...and not nearly as funny as marella's one liners. it also would have served the company better to shock the fans with another outcome. so, in spite of what happened, i would like to now present to you...santino's lines-o-tha-night1) when telling the crowd that it is unlikely that steve austin would be showing up, he mentions that there will be no opening of "ass whip" cans, no stomping of "mud pies" and the kicker: "jr is not going to reach the point of orgasm".2) after austin attempts to correct santino's mispronouncing of the above mentioned catch phrases including the incorrectly plural "bottom lines", marella responds, "but sometimes i like to say more than one thing".3) when describing how much he hates the condemned, marella mentions how he cannot understand how austin could have been so violent to "people". the pronunciation of "pee-pahl" was priceless.on a side note, big o for the beer truck hose going off early and spraying up the fans in the front row. another o is deserved by the dude who throws austin his beers. no matter where steve is, his pitcher always is on target.cody rhodes cannot get over, folks. i'm sorry, but the kid is way too vanilla. it doesn't matter if he's winning matches now, (although according to jim ross, rhodes' win-loss record is "extremely good") the fans stare at him with indifference. kinda the way hardcore holly does.and speaking of guys who can't get over, the world's greatest tag team lost again! and get this...to the tandem of "hacksaw" jim duggan and super crazy. here's how the match went. duggan and crazy started off on the mic yelling hacksaw's patented "ho!" which was followed by super crazy's "si!". it didn't work.here's what else didn't work. duggan's numerous attempts to get the crowd to chant "u-s-a"...while his mexican partner wrestled. and just when you thought that charlie haas and shelton benjamin would pick up a surefire victory, benjamin is pinned by crazy...without duggan ever entering the ring. what the fuck??the main event saw dx (for "one night...". okay, okay...it annoyed the fuck outta me too!) taking on randy orton and umaga. umaga still no sells the ddt although he's lost to a pedigree at least twice now. randy orton still over-prepares for his rko while hbk can hit the sweet chin music from out of nowhere...which he did to pick up the win.i'm surprised by how little time orton is given on "raw". he is, after all, the wwe champion. with hbk kicking randy's teeth down his throat for what?...the fifth time?, i'm guessing randy keeps his belt at survivor series. but then...that would be me trying to think logically. something wwe clearly doesn't do...and they admit it!i wish "raw" would finally start making some sense. even if it was for "one night only".tha results:*beth phoenix def. kelly kelly*snitsky (in place of carlito) def. ric flair announced last week he would be returning to "smackdown!" later on this month in an interview conducted by our friends over at between the ropes. flair played off the major tension between him and vince, simply saying he needed to take the last few months off and wwe management obliged. the return all but guarantees that flair will be getting his major career send-off culminating with a hall of fame induction and high-profile match at wrestlemania 24.but how exactly should this major angle unfold? the original plan for the flair send-off angle came from steve austin. austin's idea was for flair to go on a major winning streak and defeat talent on all three brands on his way to a world title match. vince originally loved the idea, but kept holding it off until flair finally got sick of waiting and left for his impromptu sabbatical. apparently there were some people who weren't too happy about flair getting wins over younger talent. obviously, for this angle to work, flair would need some wins over a few established names. that apparently didn't sit right with "raw" writer brian gewirtz and triple h. true, an old man getting all these wins on younger guys does seem counter-productive, but this is flair for crying out loud!so now flair is getting his wish and one would think he is either getting a match for the world title and losing, or, he is getting a short-term run with the belt. i like the idea of flair wearing gold one more time. but, the world title is currently around the waist of batista and he is feuding with undertaker. does flair get a win over either of those two? both are strong faces and a heel-turn seems unlikely for all parties involved. then we have the returning edge. edge is a great heel and would be the perfect foil for a flair run. but, the plan for the last several months has been to have edge versus undertaker in a battle of unbeaten streaks at wrestlemania 24. that leaves flair with batista, and i really don't think that's a good idea. you could have batista turn heel and lose the world title to flair. but does flair then lose it to a heel batista at wrestlemania 24?if flair is to lose on his way out i would love for it to be to a rising star, someone who can benefit from the spot. unfortunately, i don't think anyone is ready to make the big leap. not even trevor murdoch. then there is jericho. the match would be great and the lead-up promos would be outstanding. come to think of it, i like this idea the best. have flair beat batista for the world title at royal rumble and build to a feud with jericho which sees y2j take the gold at wrestlemania 24. i am not a fan of someone retiring with a belt. i know trish stratus did it, but the women's title is hardly worth a damn so who really cares if the champion goes out without losing. flair winning the gold at wrestlemania 24 and then retiring may sound nice, but to me it will devalue the world title already more than it is. the execution of this angle will be interesting. though it seems easy to book at first, there are so many variables to remember when thinking about other talent, possible feuds, and the legitimacy of the world title. as a major flair mark, i hope that he will get one last run on-top with the big belt as it would make many faces smile, especially in a year where there have been so few reasons to. more on this story... posted by f'n frank fronte at 12:01 am 4 comments    monday, november 05, 2007 writers strike could be good for business today the television and film industry took a massive hit today when the writers guild of america went on strike today as expected.hollywood insiders seem to believe that this strike could last several months into 2008. now, other than some packaged re-runs of regularly live programming like letterman and leno, the average tv viewer won't notice a damn thing for several months.films that are currently in production will go on hold and the spring/summer crop of films next year could suck balls in a big way.what does all this have to do with pro wrestling and mma? plenty.we've seen it happen many times in the past where casual sports fans were turned off during a work stoppage and turned to alternate forms of entertainment.for example, national u.s. networks actually experienced a spike in the ratings during the month of october in 1994 when the world series was cancelled. that was during an era when the world series was still relatively important to the average citizen. baseball as a whole has undergone a resurgence by playoff ratings were at an all time low this year. people found other things to watch. the home video market boomed in canada during the 2005 nhl lockout, and according to rogers and blockbuster's quarterly reports, remains higher today than it was in 2004.the point - pro wrestling and mma are major television products that run live events (or live to tape) and do not utilize union writers, even though many feel wwe could certainly use them.this is the time for ufc to pull as many "big money fights" together and to really step up their promotion for the ultimate fighter program. wwe and tna need to abandon the cheezy storylines and feuds that date back several months. start fresh. sure, go sensationalistic if you want...but start booking and writing for the "casual fan" who may very well tune in this week because they're sick of re-runs.is it possible that the fed could see a minor bump in the ratings? sure.it's not like you have to convert a bunch of wrestling-haters into fans. during the attitude era, the north american viewing audience was more than double its current share. run a campaign to bring back the casual fan. bring back the men and women who tuned in to see the rock and stone cold. having austin on "raw" tonight is a step in the right direction.opportunity is in front of all these televised products. my guess is that none of the figureheads will even blink and eye, and the respective brands will continue to needlessly suffer. as will we. more on this story... posted by bigdaddy at 6:48 pm 6 comments    sunday, november 04, 2007 kamala shoot interview now available! kamala: a name surrounded in mystery. a man whose demeanor in the ring and guarded life outside of it, have kept his persona hidden and unreachable.a man who spent the better part of his wrestling career silent has broken down the walls of kayfabe and you will never believe what this friendly giant has to say.tha o show and hammerlock video have now lifted the veil behind this icon of the 80's with an in-depth, no holds barred, shoot interview.filmed march 24, 2007, kamala holds nothing back from big daddy donnie and dan-e-o.kamala talks about:*the creation of the kamala character and which wwe hall of famer came up with it!*his run in nwa and feud with magnum t*being taken advantage of by vince mcmahon his entire career in wwe*facing racism as a black man in a predominantly white business*his thoughts on bruiser brody, abdullah the butcher, the botswana beast, the von erich family and so many more!*and how and why he nearly murdered andre the giant!purchase the dvd hammerlock video presents...a shoot interview with kamala the ugandan giant by visiting the o show's online store today!! more on this story... posted by tha o show staff at 6:45 pm 0 comments    saturday, november 03, 2007 fabulous moolah passes away tha o show is saddened to have learned of the passing of lillian ellison, better known to wrestling fans as fabulous moolah. according to wwe.com, moolah passed away last night in columbia, south carolina.wwe.com also had this to say about moolah:in the world of women’s wrestling, there will always be one irrefutable legend that stands head and shoulders above the rest: the fabulous moolah. she was the longest reigning champion in the history of her chosen sport, or any sport for that matter. and with more than 50 years in the business to her credit, she established a legacy that will never be forgotten, making her name synonymous with female wrestling.amazingly, fabulous moolah began her wrestling career in the late 1940s and managed to remain relevant to modern day fans of sports entertainment through her on-again off-again appearances in wwe, along with mae young.as recently as september of 2003, moolah wrestled victoria on an episode of "raw" to celebrate her 80th birthday. she ended up receiving an rko courtesy of randy orton following the match. to have been taking such bumps at that age was beyond incredible. moolah truly was a legend.tha o show will have more on fabulous moolah as information becomes available. she was 84. more on this story... posted by tha o show staff at 12:50 pm 4 comments    select a month october 2007 september 2007 august 2007 july 2007 june 2007 may 2007 april 2007 march 2007 february 2007 january 2007 december 2006 november 2006 october 2006 september 2006 august 2006 july 2006 june 2006 may 2006 april 2006 march 2006 february 2006 our partners tha hosts of tha show big daddy donnie dan-e-o tha wrestlers who contribute to tha show notorious t.i.d. asylum the iron sheik jason sensation chris kanyon cody deaner danyah kingdom james tha rest of tha team f'n frank fronte brian plunkett gordo, the wizard of id djb follow tha o show on tha road gcw, friday, november 2nd oshawa, on the union, saturday, november 3rd toronto, on llw, saturday, november 24th hamilton, on gcw, thursday, november 29th oshawa, on llw, saturday, january 27th hamilton, on o show newsletterdelivered to you by email! enter your email address:delivered by feedburner wrestling links llw gcw pwa bse nsw eccw roh ovw tna wwe wxw
