writingfix has interactive lessons for building stronger writing skills in writers of any age writingfix, we believe, is the only site of its kind.  it was designed by writers, teachers, and students...to spark the imaginations of writers, teachers and students...of all ages. we wanted this website to inspire writers. most on-line sites that we explored contained long (and often uninteresting) lists of topics a person could write about. instead of boring topic-lists to inspire writing, writingfix created unique interactive word games that put the writer in control, and keep him/her engaged.  to see an example of what we mean by an interactive writing prompt from an interactive word game, scroll down to the blue box below: our instant plot creator. click the three buttons below the write screens to be given an interactive plot idea.  keep clicking the buttons until a story that you might actually write is inspired by the random choices that come up.  if someone was sitting at a computer next to you clicking away as well, that person would most-likely end up with three different choices and a completely different idea for a story in his/her head.  this site contains over 250 of these interactive writing prompts for writers. the trick is: can you stop playing the interactive games at some point and start writing?  our interactive plot creator below is just one of over 250 on-line writing prompts.  our prompts are currently categorized into these nine categories:   right-brained prompts left-brained prompts writingfix for kids daily journal prompts 6-trait prompts poetry prompts picture book prompts chapter book prompts classics of lit prompts    because this site was created by teachers, each interactive writing prompt was set-up to be a complete writing lesson that can be used with developing writers.  each prompt page contains pretty explicit instructions on how to introduce and teach a writing concept to developing writers.  each on-line prompt comes with student/writer instructions.  each prompt comes with an interactive word game.  many of the on-line prompts are currently being revised by members of the northern nevada writing project's technology team so that they also contain student worksheets and revision tools that can be printed and used in the classroom. as the lessons become fully revised with these teaching tools, they are becoming what we are calling 5-star lessons. we hope you're inspired enough by our interactive prompts to write more, or to teach writing more..      still not sure what we mean by interactive? try our interactive instant plot creator every plot should have a setting, a character, and a conflict.  press the three buttons below until you get a setting, character, and conflict that inspires a story in your brain.  then, write the story! setting  character   conflict     working with students with this interactive writing prompt?  try using our pre-writing worksheet and our rough-draft worksheet?       the 2005 writing across the curriculum guide (wac) & the 2006 reading in the content areas guide (rica) guides & on-line resources created by 4th - 12th grade teachers, for 4th - 12th grade teachers!  both available for purchase now!   the northern nevada writing project proudly sponsors the writingfix website.  this website is but one many great resources the nnwp provides for teachers and writers. over 2000 teachers in northern nevada are now using the writing across the curriculum guide that the nnwp first published in 2005.  over 500 of these guides have been sold to teachers in the united states and canada.  many of the guide's resources can be found on-line at writingfix's writing across the curriculum homepage.  the 140-page writing across the curriculum guide is divided into five modules that are designed to promote teacher discussions.  each module examines a different technique to incorporate writing across the curriculum in content areas other than english.  each module encourages discussion among upper elementary & secondary teachers by beginning and ending with thoughtful discussion questions.  new to 2006 is the northern nevada writing project's 134-page reading in the content areas guide. this thoughtful resource contains five sections that encourage teachers to try new strategies that help their students comprehend and write about what they are reading in both literature and expository texts.  the examples, lessons, and resources come from upper elementary and secondary classrooms.  each module examines a different strategy that will increase reading comprehension from students.  coming in october 2006, many of the guide's resources will available for free to writingfix users at our new reading in the content areas homepage. like the w.a.c. guide, the nnwp's r.i.c.a. guide is designed as a workbook for individual teachers.  thoughtful discussion questions begin and end each module, so groups of teachers unpacking the guide together will find plenty to talk about.  information on ordering both guides can be found on-line by clicking here.         why are these on-line resources free?   good ideas keep us growing.  technology grants keep us free. our promise to you:  no advertisements!  no subscription fees to use this site!  we acquire grant monies to grow. the website you're using right now is a professional development project, created by teachers from the northern nevada writing project for teachers around the globe.  like john dewey, the nnwp believes that educators learn best by doing, adapting, and revising good ideas.  this website is a place where any educator or writer can find good ideas to try, to adapt, and to try again.  we've been providing these free resources since 2001; in fact, writingfix has an interesting history that you can read about in detail by clicking here. this website also provides a different kind of professional development for the teachers who create for the site.  the northern nevada writing project hosts in-service courses and summer institutes that require good teachers to design new lessons and resources that can be posted here.  as these teachers create, they teach what they've built to both their students and to other teachers.  they make discoveries about what makes the perfect on-line resource.  these resource-creators have become our northern nevada writing project's technology team, and they will profess to learning just as much as the teachers who enroll in their courses and workshops. at present, our workshops are only offered in northern nevada, but we are actively looking for new grants and donations that will help us bring these workshops to teachers across the nation...and across the globe.  two recent technology grants that keep this site growing and free: the 2005-2006 sbc technology grant the 2006-2007 at & t technology grant   ©2007 writingfix all rights reserved. with the exception of the book thumbnails, all materials found on this webpage are copyrighted by writingfix and the northern nevada writing project.  educators have permission to print and share these materials with their students.  all others need to request permission from this site's sponsor: the northern nevada writing project.  visit http://nnwp.org to request permission. thumbnails of book covers are included here to encourage users to purchase these books and support the authors and illustrators who created them.     who created writingfix? writingfix began as a professional development project for teachers in 2001.  click here to find out the history of this website, and for a sneak preview of what's being developed. visit our sponsor: the northern nevada writing project this website is free thanks to this organization. e-mail our webmaster we receive too much spam to this e-mail address.  please put the word writingfix in your e-mail's subject line, so we don't accidentally delete it with the daily pile of junk mail we receive.
