raymond
scott (1908-1994) de son vrai nom harry warnow est un américain
de brooklyn, ingénieur électronicien, musicien
jazz et véritable pionnier oublié de la musique
électronique.
cette compilation anthologie en 2 cd, contient plus de 2 heures
d'enregistrement. elle est l'œuvre du label hollandais
basta et se compose de 69 courts morceaux soigneusement assemblés
: jingles, films publicitaires et b.o. de courts métrages
composés par raymond scott dans les années 50
et 60, au sein de son propre studio de recherche nommé
manhattan research inc.
ce qui fait l'originalité de toutes ses compositions,
ce sont les sons spatiaux, l'ambiance "film de science
fiction des années 50". cet incroyable son vintage,
on le doit au seul génie créatif et aux mains
expertes de ce savant fou, musicien hors pair et inventeur
de toute une ribambelle d'instruments électroniques
: clavivox, bass line generator, circle machine, rythm modulator,
bandito the bongo artist, karloff et l'electronium : aboutissement
de toutes ses recherches. raymond scott participera bon gré
mal gré à la démocratisation des sons
électroniques grâce notamment à des spots
publicitaires musicalement innovants (détergents vim,
pastilles vicks...) au même titre que les époux
barron avec leur fameuse bo du film forbidden planet.
cette compilation kaléidoscopique se présente
sous la forme d'un livre/cd de 144 pages admirablement illustrées
de photos, interviews (dont robert moog) et textes divers
sur le travail de raymond scott et son étonnante carrière.
prenez place pour un voyage saisissant dans la genèse
des fréquences électroniques et les explorations
sonores si particulières aux années 50/60 !
