september 16, 2003 - one of ignps2's most popular recurring features, the famed smackdown countdown, is back! and it's better than ever. a prolonged look at personalities and superstars that fill the gigantic roster of thq's most popular licensed videogame, the smackdown countdown has become one of our favorite daily features and carries on a tradition started way back in 2001.
two years and several titles later, our latest test subject is the yuke's-developed wwe smackdown! here comes the pain -- a incredibly massive and refined revision of the same series that sold millions of units worldwide, hctp boasts a lineup of nearly 70 professional wrestlers, realistic weight systems, a two-button counter mechanic, and a tug-of-war inspired grappling format. the career mode, match types, and various other aspects of pain have been refined as well, and when paired with the obvious visual overhaul has helped to produce the most anticipated game of its type in recent memory.
to celebrate the big event, your pals here at ignps2 have decided to profile a new wrester every single day until we've finished with the entire lineup. from modern day behemoths like the rock and brock lesnar to the special stars of yesteryear such as roddy piper and jimmy snuka, we'll leave no stone unturned in our quest to provide for you the best damn smackdown coverage on the internet. hell, we're aiming for the best smackdown coverage on the planet!
our approach is simple. each and every update, we'll provide our readers with a side-by-side comparison of the real-life wrestler and his videogame doppelganger. in addition to this, we'll also update our media page with brand new screenshots and movies starring that day's particular hero in action. naturally we'll have other informational tidbits about that wrestler as too like his hometown, career highlights, and so forth. in short, we're helping you get to know your wrestlers better!

other aliases: master blaster steel, oz, vinnie vegas, diesel, big daddy cool, big sexy.
a detroit native, kevin nash grew up an avid fan of professional sports and was an active member of southgate high school's varsity basketball team. recruited by the university of tennessee, the giant 6'11" volunteer had a solid season before moving on to the pros overseas in germany and eventually made his way to the cleveland cavaliers as a free agent. though he never made it to the nba, he continued to play professional basketball until the mid-80s when a career-ending injury resulted in his enlistment in the u.s. army. after two years of duty, kevin quit the armed forces and went into bar bouncing before catching the biggest break of his career --when dusty rhodes discovered him late one evening after being impressed by his massive frame. after the meeting, kevin went on to train at the wcw power plant before trying his hand at various personas like master blaster steel, oz, and vinnie vegas.
when kevin moved to the wwe as diesel in 1993, however, something clicked. and the almost 7-foot superstar earned every title in the federation in less than a year. almost unheard of in this day and age, nash kept his first world title for almost an entire year before losing the crown to bret hart in 1995. not too long afterwards, he moved back to wcw and formed the infamous nwo faction with hulk hogan and scott hall. for the next five years, he reigned supreme as one of the premiere heels and faces in the business (and earned his place as the first man to defeat goldberg), before stepping away from action for almost a year with injuries before rejoining the wwe in 2002. now residing at the advanced age of 44, it's hard to tell how much longer nash will be in the business before moving on to other pastures. but for what it's worth, he's still one of the sport's most personable stars around.
