rip don arden

don arden, a rock music entrepreneur and the father of sharon osbourne, has died at the age of 81.
arden, one of the most prominent figures in pop during the 1960s and 1970s, managed the careers of the electric light orchestra, the small faces, gene vincent and, later, ozzy osbourne who became his son-in-law.
sharon met ozzy through arden and began a romance with him in 1979, later deciding to manage the singer herself. arden and his daughter fell out over the arrangement, he later sued her and the pair were estranged for 20 years.
she was reconciled with arden in 2002 after he was diagnosed with alzheimer’s disease.
arden died today in a nursing home in los angeles. bummer.

al gore’s son popped again

heh. this is his third brush with the law; he was arrested for possession in 2003 and had a dui in 2002.
the 24-year-old son of former vice president al gore was arrested for drug possession on wednesday after he was stopped for speeding in his hybrid toyota prius, a sheriff’s official said. al gore iii was driving his environmentally friendly car at about 100 miles per hour on a freeway south of los angeles when he was pulled over by an orange county sheriff’s deputy at about 2:15 a.m. the deputy smelled marijuana and searched the car, said sheriff’s spokesman jim amormino. the search turned up a small amount of marijuana, along with prescription drugs including valium, xanax, vicodin, adderall and soma.

world of warcraft player bronco carson reported to local police on saturday that 3 men broke into his home and beat his arms with clubs and smashed his computer. it was supposedly in retaliation for carson stalking and repeatedly killing one of the attackers wife’s character during computer video game play. carson admitted to police that he had been “making it hard for her to get far in the game.” he said that after repeated online threats from the woman, she sent her husband and friends over to his house to “take care of him.” carson later said that he had made the mistake of telling her where he lived and “if her husband was man enough to just come meet me to settle this.”

huge flocks of starving vultures have begun attacking live farm animals in northern spain.
in one incident about 100 birds savaged a cow and her newborn calf, a farmer in the village valle de mena said. the area has seen four attacks in the past two months.
jose manuel de las heras, president of the local chapter of a farmers’ union said the attacks are on the rise because a feeding station was closed down. traditionally, according to news agency efe, rural officials used to “designate areas to dump the carcasses of farm animals like mules”. the scavengers have ditched their natural aversion to humans, and carry out their airborne attacks as close as 100 metres from people, de la heras said. “they are not afraid of anything,” the terrified trade unionist yammered.
