fix these discussion boards
if you want to encourage people to contribute, you need to fix these boards so that people can respond in real-time. currently it has a "letters to the editor" flavour. submit today, appear on the board some time this week or month perhaps.

it isn't our policy to allow real-time posting for the very simplereason of the liability that would expose us to. any defamatory or libelouscomments that are posted on this board are our responsibility. we are theones on the hotseat if the lawyers come calling. so nothing goes livewithout being vetted first. we always strive to read and approve newcomments several times a day.
the issue of allowing real-time posting on discussion boards has beendebated at different levels in our organization. but regardeless of how itshould be, the fact is, as newspapers, our website content is stillgoverned by the same
libel laws that pertain to print.
