jonathan meese and tal r at bortolami dayan, new york
though it could originally have been intended as homage, jonathan meese and tal r's installation 'mother' at bortolami dayan is a hilariously insolent send-up of the concept of motherhood. the gallery has been converted to a pepto-bismol pink castle. practically every inch of wall and floor is covered with a wild mix of sculpture, photography, collage and painting. the prevailing color scheme of the evening - pink and brown - more than convinced us that an alternative title for this travelling show could be "nipples and holes." opening night was among the most quirky and memorable of the year. doug mcclemont reports.
