more on fix to leopard file upload bug in flash player 9
in my previous post i mentioned that the updated flash player 9 on the adobe labs site fixed one of the two places where we use filereference.upload() but not the other place. i figured out why.
up until yesterday, our server was sending back a short html document in the response to the post initiated by the filereference.upload() call. but then yesterday we changed the code to return a zero-length response instead. turns out that there’s a bug in the mac player code where a zero-length response doesn’t trigger the complete event, and that bug has been there since at least 9,0,47,0 (that’s as far back as i checked). the windows player seems to be perfectly happy with a zero-length response.
so the recent fix to player 9 for leopard is not directly implicated, except for the fact that it’s got the same bug with zero-length responses that’s been there for a while. if anyone from the player team is reading this, feel free to contact me directly if you need more info.

better yet, report it via the wish form, the official way to report flash player bugs. they read all those submissions for sure, but might not happen to come across this blog post.

we encountered the zero-length repsonse bug a long time ago (pre 9.0.28).

the zero length response bug on macs has been there since version 8 as far as we’ve seen.
