the fight network :: all fights all the time :: get it on!             http://www.liveaudiowrestling.com       tna impact report for 11/1 by: adam wilcox the law tonight’s show begins with a recap of the situation involving sting-kurt angle-kevin nash over the past few weeks. following the usual impact video opener, we learn that tonight’s program will feature a.j. styles and tomko defending the tna tag team titles against lax and two “fight for the right” tournament semi-final matches. kurt and karen angle make their way to the ring for a promo: kurt expresses his displeasure regarding jim cornette’s decision to place him in a world title defense at genesis with kevin nash as his partner against sting and a mystery partner … sting appears on the entrance ramp, and kurt tells him that he will figure out who the “stinger’s” partner is before the night is over … sting gives the olympian a few clues as to who his teammate at the pay-per-view will be, saying that he is a multi-time champion in wwe and wcw, in addition to being a former opponent of kurt angle … kevin nash’s music hits, and “big sexy” appears on the other side of the arena … kurt challenges nash to come to the ring and face him, but flees the ring when the former wolfpac leader complies. however, sting attacks kurt and throws him back in, where the champ is double-teamed by nash and the “stinger”. mike tenay and don west inform us that junior fatu will not compete in his semi-final fftr tourney bout tonight with christian cage due to “unknown reasons”, and that cage will instead take on a mystery opponent. match #1: james storm (w/jackie moore) vs. kaz (“fight for the right” tournament match): storm attacks kaz before the bell, but the x division star dodges his opponent and takes control with a series of hiptosses and sends storm over the top rope … storm gains the advantage with a ddt following a distraction by jackie moore and follows up with a spinning powerbomb on kaz … the “cowboy” really begins to go to work on kaz, delivering a flying enzuiguri kick and pulling the former frankie kazarian’s back down onto his knees … storm goes for a superkick, but kaz blocks the move. however, the ex-serotonin member is caught with a storm high knee shortly thereafter … kaz catapults himself over storm in the corner and uses a reverse sunset flip to score the upset victory and advance to the fftr tournament finals … post-match, eric young enters the ring with a six-pack and he and storm down the beer together. backstage, we see kurt angle sitting at a desk in a darkened room while smoking a cigar and playing detective. karen tells her husband that while he is playing games she will go and “take care of business”. crystal loutham interviews kevin nash earlier in the day: nash insists that he and kurt angle are not friends anymore, and that his only focus at genesis is on winning the world title … nash is confident that he will do well at the ppv despite not having participated in a main event in a few years … “big sexy” says that he is waiting on a couple of phone calls and will know who sting’s partner is by the end of the show. team 3d make their way to the ring wearing t-shirts proclaiming “x sux” : brother ray mocks the crowd’s “that was awesome!” chants, and takes a shot at internet wrestling fans, referring to them as “punks” and “little boys” who could never make it in the business … the motor city machineguns appear on the runway, and alex shelley makes a few fat jokes before informing team 3d that their hatred for the x divison is mutual … brother ray instructs devon to “get the tables!”, but there are none to be found underneath the ring … triple x and havok appear behind the mcm carrying team 3d’s tables. as ray and devon are distracted, petey williams, shark boy, and sonjay dutt attack them from behind. the guns hit the ring and join in on the assault before the former dudley boyz flee to the outside … shelley takes the mic again and tells team 3d that they have no choice but to face them at genesis, and chris sabin informs ray and devon that they are the motor city machineguns and made in detroit (a line which i really hope doesn’t become the team’s slogan). kurt angle is interviewing jay lethal at his “detective” desk backstage: lethal appears to be having wrestlemania vii flashbacks with himself as randy savage taking on the ultimate warrior. angle appears interested in “black machismo’s” story before becoming frustrated and turning the discussion back to the topic of sting’s genesis partner … lethal throws out wahoo mcdaniel’s name before kurt throws him out … as he exits, lethal runs into socal val and helps her pick up something she dropped on the floor. val appears interested in the x division champion, indicating a possible miss elizabeth-type role for her in the near future alongside lethal. crystal loutham interviews lance hoyt, christy hemme, and jimmy rave: christy accuses rave of coming between her and hoyt, but rave insists he has never said anything negative about her to his partner … hoyt tells his woman that rave is his boy and that’s just the way it goes sometimes … hemme informs her man that he is getting nothing tonight before storming off. match #2: awesome kong vs. christy hemme (w/lance hoyt and jimmy rave): hemme manages a sleeperhold on kong, but is eventually dropped by a backhand … kong lifts christy into a backbreaker and throws her to the mat … the awesome one finishes off hemme with a sit-down powerbomb, and a demolished christy is carried to the back by lance hoyt. this was a great squash match and a very good way to get awesome kong over as a monster-type wrestler. crystal loutham is outside sting’s dressing room: eric young is there as well attempting to listen in on sting’s conversation inside … young believes he heard the name of the “stinger’s” partner at the ppv and tells crystal the man’s identity … the announcer appears excited by the information as eric leaves. kurt angle is now interviewing robert roode at his desk backstage: roode asks kurt where his wife is, and the gold medalist tells him that she has gone to take care of business … roode says all women are crazy and thinks karen is “screwing around” on kurt … this suggestion seems to rattle angle, and he asks jeremy borash just where his wife could be. crystal loutham is backstage with dustin rhodes, who has temporarily stepped out of his “black reign” persona. abyss attacks rhodes during his interview, and retrieves a key from the black box that black reign carries with him. i can’t even begin to imagine where this is going. kurt angle is now interviewing chris harris. before he can be interrogated, however, harris proceeds to mock kurt’s investigation by yelling at angle and expressing his frustration with the champion and his family dominating impact’s television time every week (speaking for everyone who is apparently not a tna official or without “angle” as their last name). following a commercial break, we see kurt angle interrogating the voodoo kin mafia: angle argues with kip james, but b.g. steps in and calms things down … the former roaddog proceeds to interview kurt, asking him about his father … angle breaks down, saying that his father never told him that he loved him. bizarre. crystal loutham interviews christian cage backstage: with a ladder behind him, cage tells us that he believes he should receive a bye in the fftr tourney due to junior fatu’s failure to appear for their match tonight … christian demands to know whose idea it was for him to square off with a mystery opponent later on in the broadcast before realizing that he doesn’t know where tomko and a.j. styles are … cage angrily leaves to find his comrades, and we see kevin nash become upset after talking to someone on his cell phone. match #3: robert roode and ms. brooks vs. gail kim and samoa joe: during roode and brooks’ entrance, we see the female robert roode fan from last week holding up a sign putting over her favorite wrestler … roode tosses brooks into the ring with samoa joe, but joe instead opts to go for his male opponent … roode tags out to ms. brooks, and joe in turn brings in gail kim … gail misses a cross-bodyblock, allowing brooks to later deliver a gut-wrench suplex … brooks begins to argue with robert roode, and kim uses the distraction to come off the top rope with a dropkick … gail tags in samoa joe, and joe physically brings in roode from the ring apron … joe goes to work on roode with a backdrop and high kick in the corner … joe applies the “kokina clutch” on roode, but ms. brooks informs the referee that she is the legal person for her team in the match … the “samoan submission machine” tags in kim before suicide diving onto roode on the arena floor, leaving the ladies alone in the ring … gail flips over brooks in the corner and rolls her up for the three-count … post-match, robert roode berates ms. brooks once again, prompting gail kim to re-enter the ring and slap roode across the face. when roode grabs her, samoa joe comes to the knockout champion’s rescue and chases the former team canada member to the outside and into the crowd. when we return from a commercial break, samoa joe’s face is bloodied due to robert roode throwing him into the ring stairs … footage is shown of the female roode fan confronting joe during the break, which is what led to the big samoan’s facial injury. jeremy borash and kurt angle interrogate talia madison and angel williams: the girls say eric young told them who sting’s partner at genesis will be, but ask what they have to gain by letting angle in on the secret … jb offers to allow madison and williams into his hotel room as payment for their information, and the knockouts respond by saying they will only tell borash the identity of sting’s teammate … however, rather than share any useful info with jeremy, talia knees the announcer in the stomach and leaves with angel. match #4: christian cage vs. mystery opponent (“fight for the right” tournament match): cage comes to the ring carrying the ladder seen in his earlier promo … chris harris is introduced as cage’s opponent for this bout … christian takes the early advantage, but harris comes back with a backdrop and vertical suplex … with cage pummeling him in the corner, harris lifts the “instant classic” off of the turnbuckle and throws him onto the top rope, following up with a full-nelson slam for a two-count … harris attempts a suplex with both men on the apron, but cage blocks the maneuver and uses the ropes to flip himself into a kick which sends the “wildcat” to the floor … cage misses a “frog splash” from the top turnbuckle as we return from commercials … cage catches harris with an elbow and then delivers a second one from the middle rope … christian attempts another move from the second turnbuckle, but is caught and flapjacked by harris … the former america’s most wanted member dodges a charging christian cage in the corner and scores with a flying clothesline … cage later returns the favor by avoiding harris in the corner, causing the “wildcat” to go crashing into the ringpost, and follows that up with an inverted ddt … while on the apron, cage jumps over the top rope and runs at harris, only to be caught with a spear … christian attempts an “unprettier”, but harris counters by turning all the way around while in position for the maneuver and is able to hit an “unprettier” of his own for a count of two … harris goes for a “catatonic”, but cage reverses into another “unprettier” attempt. harris counters with a reverse roll-up, but cage rolls back into one of his own and uses both the ropes and harris’ tights to get the win … after the bell, cage nails a distracted chris harris with the ladder and then comes off one of the high rungs with a “frog splash” onto his defeated opponent … as a result of cage’s victory, it will be the “instant classic” squaring off against kaz in the finals of the fftr tournament. crystal loutham confronts kevin nash backstage. when asked about his phone call earlier, nash simply says that he did not expect this to happen and then leaves to find kurt angle. we see kurt angle interrogating eric young as young is tied to a chair: angle repeatedly hits eric with a phone book while demanding to know who sting’s partner at genesis will be, but all young offers is a reference to the shockmaster … after it becomes obvious that young will not reveal the identity of sting’s ppv teammate, kurt tells jeremy borash to take young and leave. from the broadcast booth, mike tenay and don west run down the matches signed for genesis thus far, which are as follows: gail kim vs. odb vs. roxxi laveaux vs. angel williams (tna women’s title match) team 3d vs. the motor city machineguns robert roode vs. samoa joe kurt angle and kevin nash vs. sting and a mystery partner (tna world championship match) the announcers are suddenly interrupted by black reign appearing on the monitor behind them. reign cuts a truly strange promo challenging abyss to a “shop of horrors match” at genesis, and tells the “monster” that he should not have taken his key earlier in the night. match #5: lax vs. a.j. styles and tomko (tna tag team title match): hernandez and styles begin the bout … after being repeatedly thrown around by hernandez, a.j. gives up and finally tags out to tomko … hernandez sends tomko to the outside with an elbow and catches styles as the “phenomenal” one springboards toward him. with styles still in his grasp, hernandez tags in homicide and dumps a.j. over the top rope, allowing his partner to sail to the outside with a front rolling dive onto the tag champs … homicide delivers a high backdrop to styles as we return from a commercial break, and follows up with a belly-to-belly suplex. however, the lax member’s pin attempt goes unnoticed by the referee, who is tied up on the arena floor with hernandez and tomko … homicide goes for another pin following a reverse neckbreaker, but there is still no official to count the fall … homicide lifts styles up for a “gringo killer”, but a.j. breaks free and connects with a low blow … styles brings in tomko, who lifts homicide over his head and drops him onto his knee with a backbreaker … tomko tags styles back in, and a.j. scores with a flying forearm and dropkick on homicide before being stopped in his tracks with a “gringo cutter” … homicide manages to tag hernandez, who enters the ring by catapulting himself over the top rope and onto a.j. styles with a shoulderblock … the bigger lax member goes to work on both styles and an interfering tomko, and catches a.j. as he is coming off the second rope, turning the tag titleholder from a slam position into a powerbomb … hernandez lifts styles up for a “border toss”, but a big boot from tomko puts an end to that idea … lax double-team tomko and send the big man to the outside, allowing them to focus their efforts on styles inside the ring … homicide suplexes a.j. into hernandez’ jumping backbreaker, which earns the challengers a two-count … hernandez lifts styles onto his shoulders, and homicide heads to the top turnbuckle, but tomko enters the ring and rescues his partner. this allows a.j. to nail homicide with a “paylay”, which sends him to the floor … tomko puts down hernandez with a clothesline, which allows styles to springboard off the top rope with a 450 splash to get the pin for his team … post-match, styles and tomko proceed to assault lax and deliver their combination “tornadoplex” to hernandez … the alleged new member of the latino nation from last week hands homicide a weapon of some sort, which allows lax to send the tag team champions to the outside … rick and scott steiner arrive and brawl with styles and tomko. kurt angle interrogates his wife, karen: as angle accuses karen of cheating on him, kevin nash enters the room and tells the olympian that he knows who sting’s partner at genesis will be: scott hall … furthermore, nash informs kurt that hall will be at impact next week as the show ends. we conclude with a video closer featuring music from bro-kin. i thought tonight’s program was pretty entertaining. the backstage interrogation skits were great (with the exception of the one involving vkm - that was awful), and the in-ring action was very good as well. the main event was strong as usual, and the christian cage-chris harris bout was well-worked also. even kaz and james storm’s match was good while it lasted. i’m looking forward to next week’s bout with cage and kaz, and i’m happy that kaz has been placed in such a high-profile position (although i don’t expect him to win the fftr tournament). with that said, however, i guess we’ll have to wait and see just how much the tourney will actually mean seeing as it appears the winner will no longer be in the main event at genesis. i’m guessing the situation involving scott hall will turn out to be yet another tna swerve. sting’s clues as to the identity of his partner at the ppv seem to point toward booker t (add that to the fact that hall has almost no history with angle whatsoever), so i see hall interfering at genesis to aid angle and kevin nash in retaining kurt’s title, and the three of them forming some sort of supergroup. but, as always, we can only guess what tna has in store for us. i’m glad that we were saved another team 3d beatdown of the x division this week, but i’m not sure how strong the x wrestlers look having to have an eight-to-two advantage over ray and devon before finally exacting their revenge - as babyfaces, no less. i only hope that the motor city machineguns come out of this program as legitimate stars and then go on to a strong feud with the tag team champions. i take back what i said last week - i am no longer interested at all in the eric young and james storm situation. storm had the potential to be one of tna’s top heels (remember the “search for rhino” segments?) and teaming him with young out of nowhere for no reason whatsoever is completely illogical (which, i suppose, within the walls of the tna booking meetings makes it entirely logical). i welcome all comments at vamp3434@hotmail.com. thanks for reading. take care and bye-bye for now! posted --
